I work directly from observation and the act of painting becomes a
series of intuitive decisions about what to put on the canvas, each one
inspired by some aspect of the subject I am viewing.
That subject might be anything in the physical world, but my ambition
is always to create a timeless, poetic image.
What I strive for is a kind of visual language which I hope to create
by addressing the formal issues of painting.
